Ruthie’s Rainbow

Feb 14, 2020 | My Quilts, Ruthie's Rainbow

Magnolia’s middle name is Ruth and she’s sometimes called Ruthie, which suits her. She is 4 years old. Her sister and I had started a quilt the weekend before and she wanted one, too. When I asked her favorite color, she said, “Pink, purple, red, blue, yellow”. I said, “That sounds like a rainbow! She said, “Yes!” So, a rainbow quilt it was to be. The fabrics she chose were polka dots or dot-ish and from my stash. We did need to make a trip the quilt shop for an aqua or two – she chose a polka dot with flowers – it became her FAVORITE. That first weekend, we were able to piece the whole top.

After Christmas, I went to their house for the weekend, with my Featherweight. We quilted her top to a hot pink polka dot background on my Featherweight. We did waves down each seam. A couple of weeks later, we make a pieced border with her favorite aqua floral and the pink polka dots from the backing. We even managed to attach the binding. I took the triangle scraps from making the binding to make a little block. She really liked it and wanted it on the front of the quilt. Sew, it is. 😀
